- Willie Montanez went to the New York Mets as part of that huge 4-team trade on December 8, 1977. Montanez led the Mets in home runs and in RBI. Willie led NL first basemen in assists in 1978.

- May 17 - Knocked in four runs as the Mets beat the Atlanta Braves 8-7.
- May 19 - Singled in the winning run off of Tug McGraw in the 9th inning to lead the Mets to a 4-3 comeback win over the Philadelphia Phillies.
- Aug 30 - Went 2 for 5 with a 3-run home run in the Mets' 10-4 win over the San Francisco Giants.
I don't know if this has been discussed yet but I've always wondered if anyone ever played the game {Play Ball. Played by Two) on the back of 1978 Topps cards.

I played the game on the back a few times with my next door neighbor. Not too many times, but we did try it out.
