- Robin Yount didn't play his first 1978 game until May 6. Yount was 22 years old but was already playing in his fifth season. Robin was named to post season all star teams by The Sporting News, AP, UPI, and Baseball Bulletin.

- 1978 Highlights:
- July 8 - Had three hits and scored two runs (including the tying run in the bottom of the 8th inning) in Milwaukee's come-from-behind 6-5 victory over the New York Yankees.
- Sept 6 - Had four hits (including two home runs) and knocked in five runs as the Brewers beat the Toronto Blue Jays 7-0.
- Sept 19 - Scored both runs and homered as the Brewers shut out the Yankees 2-0.
- George Brett missed some time due to injuries and batted under .300 for the first time in four seasons in 1978. George missed three weeks after injuring his shoulder while breaking up a double play on April 29. Brett also missed three weeks in late July and early August.
- Although he played in only 128 games, Brett led the AL with 45 doubles.

- 1978 Highlights:
- April 17 - Homered, doubled, scored twice and knocked in two runs in Kansas City's 3-2 win over the Toronto Blue Jays
- Sept 18 - Had four hits and scored twice as the Royals beat the Seattle Mariners 7-6 in 11 innings.
- Oct 6 - Hit three solo home runs in a losing cause as the Royals lost to the New York Yankees 6-5 in game 3 of the AL Championship Series.
- Carl Yastrzemski had back problems and a bout with bronchitis during the 1978 season, but he still managed to play in 144 games. Carl was elected to start in the 1978 All Star Game, but he declined in order to rest his ailing back.
- I like the little plaques that indicate the player was an All Star. They look better than the "banner" style that Topps sometimes used.

- 1978 Highlights:
- May 14 - Went 3 for 5 with a run and two RBI in Boston's 6-2 win over the Minnesota Twins.
- June 17 - Grounded a bases loaded single through a drawn in infield in the bottom of the 9th inning to win the game. The Red Sox came from behind to beat the Seattle Mariners 5-4.
- Sept 6 - Hit a 2-run home run for the only runs in the game as the Red Sox beat the Baltimore Orioles 2-0.
- Eddie Murray was on his first All Star team in 1978. Murray didn't play in the 1978 game, but he would be on seven more All Star teams in his career.
- Eddie had a slight improvement over his rookie 1977 season. His numbers in 1978 were VERY close to his career 162-game average.

- 1978 Highlights:
- Early in 1978 I can remember getting this card a lot. At first I had no idea why -- Pete Rose cards were traditionally cards that were highly sought after. Later I found out that this card was double printed. Rose cards were no longer "hard to get." That took the luster off of getting his card.
- Although the Reds didn't win the NL West, Pete had a lot of accomplishments in 1978. He got his 3000th hit early in the season and he also had the memorable 44 game hitting streak.

- .302, 7 HR, 52 RBI, 103 runs, 51 doubles (led the NL)
- 1978 Highlights:
- May 5 - Got his 3000th career hit with a single in the 5th inning off of pitcher Steve Rogers of the Montreal Expos.
- July 5 - Was voted by the fans as the starting third baseman in the All Star Game. It was his seventh All Star start. Pete had one double in four at bats.
- Aug 1 - Pete's 44 game hitting streak came to an end against the Atlanta Braves. Gene Garber struck Rose out in the 9th inning. Pete had four hits in the next game on August 2.
- Dec 5 - Became baseball's highest paid player after agreeing to a five year contract with the Philadelphia Phillies. Pete would have made more money if he would have taken one of his other offers, but he took the Phillies $800,000/year deal.
