The 1978 season was a low point in the history of the New York mets. The stars of the early-mid 70s (Tom Seaver, Jon matlack, Dave Kingman, etc.) were gone and Joe Torre was left with a shell of a team to manage. It would take several years for the mets' fortunes to turn around.
