- Here's an obscure record. It's pretty cool that Mr. McCovey was able to do this, but I think Topps was stretching things a bit for this card.
- Jeff King of the Pittsburgh Pirates hit two home runs in one inning in 1995 and 1996. To the best of my knowledge he was the only other player to accomplish this feat.
McCovey's 2nd HR of the inning was a grand slam at Riverfront off the Reds' Joe Hoerner. This game would mark the beginning of the end for the veteran pitcher as he would only toss in 5 more games during the season and his career. The winning Giants pitcher was Terry Cornutt - his only major league win.

ReplyDeleteI agree about the font. I was trying to get that cursive feel like the cards have. It didn't work very well. I have switched to a different font and will play with it some more when I get the chance. Thanks for the feedback.
